Making full use of what is there already, this space is between older buildings and under a new one.
We played up the brick work on the elevator cabin, placed a skylight from the new building to the old, added cornices and a solid soffit over a glass entry.
Then we peeled the walls away from an essential column, gave them a curve and placed a display case in the resulting alcove. This defined the entry to the Charles A. Dana Laboratories.
The conference room is a useful and delightful space that can both serve as a meeting space and define the entry.
